Avril Sets Date For Clap-Happy New Album
Avril Lavigne has penciled in an April 17 release for her new RCA album, "The Best Damn Thing." the first single is "Girlfriend"; it will arrive March 5 at U.S. radio outlets, and its accompanying video will premiere Feb. 26 on MTV.
With its handclaps and bad-girl vibe, the track is reminiscent of Toni Basil's "Mickey," as Lavigne pushes past rival ladies to demand attention from a new guy: "She's like, so whatever / you could do so much better," she sings of her competition.
Two other tracks previewed by Billboard.com follow in a similar style: "I Can Do Better" is a fast and punky kiss-off with Blink 182-ish guitar riffs, and the title cut finds Lavigne proclaiming she is the "best damn thing your eyes have ever seen."
Elsewhere, "When You're Gone" is a power ballad with a piano and synth introduction, and "Everything Back But You" mines Rancid-style pop/punk for another diss of a cheating boyfriend. "The Best Damn Thing" will also conține "Keep Holding On," previously released on the "Eragon" soundtrack.
"I wanted to make sure the songs were fun -- fun for the fans and myself," Lavigne said in a December post on her MySpace page. At present, Lavigne is in the midst of tour rehearsals but details have yet
to be announced.

ink 2 articole despre noul album...
Avril Lavigne Plots Spring Return
LOS ANGELES (January 29, 2007) -- Canadian pop rocker Avril Lavigne will return with her third artist album The Best Damn Thing, later this spring.
The celebrated artist who has netted a host of Grammy nominations over her brief career recruited a number of producers on the album including her husband Deryck Whibley from punk-pop outfit Sum 41. Producers Rob Cavallo (known for his work with Green Day), Butch Walker (Pink) and Dr. Luke (Kelly Clarkson) also contributed to the album due April 17.
While fans of the singer were given a preview of Lavigne's first new music since 2004 with last year's "Keep Holding On" from the "Eragon" soundtrack, the official single from the effort will be "Girlfriend." Its video premieres February 26 before hitting radio on March 5.
Other tracks slated for The Best . . . conține ballads "When You're Gone," "Innocence" and "Keep Holding On" and pop-punk cut "I Can Do Better."
On the Scene: Avril Lavigne's listening party
It's been nearly three years since Avril Lavigne last gave music fans a piece of her mind and, in that time, much has changed for Canada's reigning pop-punk queen. Let's see: She turned 21, landed a modeling contract, made her acting debut (in Fast Food Nation, at whose premiere in November this glammed-up red-carpet photo was taken), married Sum-41's Deryck Whibley, and, for a second there, looked like she was headed down a one-way road to adulthood. But judging by new songs she previewed last night for a small group of music industry execs and members of the press, Avril's forthcoming album, The Best Damn Thing (out April 17), promises to show that she's anything but settled.
Taking the microphone at LA's ultra-exclusive lounge Hyde (the scene of Paris Hilton's infamous catfight with Shanna Moakler, Paris' headline-grabbing night out with Britney Spears, and the unforgettable Firecrotch incident), Avril excitedly introduced six hot-off-the-Pro Tools-rig tracks, all but one in-your-face rockers with a common refrain of "I hate you, bitch." Case in point: the opening verse to her first single, "Girlfriend" ("Hey you, I don't like your girlfriend... I think you need a new one"). Familiar? Sure, but polished, confident and punchier than ever, thanks to some perfectly placed hand claps and top-notch production turns by Dr. Luke (Pink, Kelly Clarkson), Butch Walker, Rob Cavallo (Green Day, My Chemical Romance) and her husband, Deryck. The same can be said of what's sure to be the second single, "I Can Do Better." She introduced the song as her favorite before explaining how it came to be. "I drank half a bottle of Limoncello, was completely wasted, wrote the song drunk and recorded it drunk," she proudly told the crowd, then toasted the record with a shot of Jager as the chorus kicked into high gear. "You left without me / And now you're somewhere out there with a bitch, slut, psycho babe / I hate you, why are guys so lame?"
Of course, this third studio effort includes plenty of four-letter words as well as the requisite instant tearjerker ("When You're Gone"), complete with strings and a dramatic piano arrangement. So what's different this time around? For one thing, Avril's dancing! Though she'd always sworn off choreography in her videos and live show, the clip for "Girlfriend," which she saved for last as an extra sneak peek treat, features Avril leading a pack of punked-out cheerleaders in an orchestrated dance sequence. As it turned out, Avril enjoyed the experience so much, she recruited the girls (who double as back-up singers for Butch Walker's band, The Let's Go Out Tonites) to join her on the road. They've been rehearsing for nearly a month, Avril told us earlier, and were still "working it all out." But on this night, it didn't take that long (or all that many shots, truthfully) before she was climbing atop the banquette, singing along and showing off her moves.
Avril may be a perpetual teenager, but she's an entertaining one at that. And this jaded journalist, who can't remember the last time an artist actually attended his/her own listening party, never mind rocked out to their own fresh-from-the-mastering-plant music, says hallelujah to that!

02.02.2007 ' The Best Damn Thing CD Cover '
RCA records (rcarecords.com) aired official album cover for 'The Best Damn Thing' with following informations.
RCA Records announces the release of The Best Damn Thing, the eagerly-awaited third full-length studio album from the multi-platinum recording artist Avril Lavigne, on Tuesday, April 17.
The first album of new music from the pop-punk icon since 2004's triple-platinum Under My Skin, The Best Damn Thing includes Avril's current hit power-ballad, "Keep Holding On," which she cowrote (with Dr. Luke), at the request of 20th Century Fox, for the studio's fantasy/adventure film, "Eragon."
The album's first single, the defiantly rocking "Girlfriend," is cowritten by Avril and Dr. Luke and produced by Dr.Luke. It is slated to impact US radio on Monday, March 5. A video for "Girlfriend" is scheduled for its worldwide premiere on Monday, February 26.
The Best Damn Thing finds its power and pulse in up-tempo pop-punk anthems like "I Can Do Better," "The Best Damn Thing," and "Girlfriend" while Avril reaches intense emotional peaks on three new ballads: "When You're Gone," "Innocence," and "Keep Holding On."
deci aceasta este coperta oficiala a albumului

There are some new information about the record in the recent German magazine "Yam!" (07):
- I Can Do Better: Travis Barker plays drums
- The Best Damn Thing: he also plays drums
- When You're Gone: a rock ballade and it should be a declaration of love for Deryck
- You Make Me So Hot: one of four songs which is co-written by Evan Taubenfeld
- Runaway: Avril says: " This song could also be called "The Summer Song". It is about to go on a cruise and to have fun."
- I Don't Have To Try: it starts with hip-hop beats which ends after about 10 seconds
